I want an Ipod for Christmas, but I dont know what type to ask "Santa" for. I really dont listen to thousands of songs. I probably would have no more than 150 actually. The ipod shuffle is probably the only ipod my mom would be willing to buy since its cheap. How many songs do ipod shuffles hold? If you have one tell me a little about it.

Hey, I can sort of relate, I had little money but wanted to new mp3 player so I looked around and decided on the shuffle. I have since upgraded to the new nano's which I highly recomend if you can push for the extra 50 bucks (comparing a 1GB shuffle to a 2GB nano). But since you have a small library the shuffle wouldn't be too bad.

Using the shuffle
In using the shuffle you can choose to manage your music manually and set the music into a playlist, so you can use the shuffle to "play in order." If you just want the music to shuffle, the ipod shuffle can just play the music in order (hence, ipod "shuffle").

The only downside that I found with the shuffle is that you cannot pick the song you want to play, the closest thing you can do is set the order.

hope that helps...

The other answers are all outdated and incorrect. If you are buying new, Apple only sells the new shuffle. It is a 1GB model which holds roughly 240 songs. It is very affordable compared to the nanos, the cheapest being double the price of a shuffle.I have one and it is great. It is VERY small and clips onto anything. If you don't want to clip it, you can put it on a lanyard around your neck. I don't care what order my songs come up when I listen, so I leave it on shuffle all the time. But if you wanted, you could put your songs in order in the playlist and play them in that order. The only drawback is not seeing the name of the song displayed, but you know what music you have and it's not that big of a deal.

the smaller shuffles(512 MB) generally hold around 200 songs. the only thing i dont like about them is that you can't change the equalizer settings like on a regular iPods.
