MacDonald is from Scotland. The mac prefix means 'son of', so MacDonald means 'son of Donald'. The same applies for the variant McDonald.

For leedham, this family crest company says it is English and gives some history of it. Try other family crest companies and see if they agree. Often these firms have a one-size-fits-all approach where they tell customers that all the people with the same surname have the same history. This is nonsense for some cases, such as where a slave and slave-owner are both called Johnson. They just want to sell crests with as little work as possible.

You might post another question (here or on a genealogy forum) with a link to it, asking more experienced genealogists what they think of its validity.

Try typing in the search bar surnames meanings, I'm sure that was how I found it, it was some time ago but maybe it will work, or type in family crest that should do it too. Good Luck in your search.
