yes.
Make the bottom numbers (denominators) the same (common)
multiply 6/7 by 8/8 (because 8/8=1 and any number may be multiplied by one and it does not change the number)= 48/56
multiply 3/8 by 7/7 = 21/56
Now you may subtract them:
48/56-21/56 = 27/56
27/56 cannot be broken down any further

Find a number the 7 and 8 will both go into (=lowest common denominator) Easiest way is to multiply them both together. 7 x 8 = 56
Then divide the bottom numbers into 56 and multiply by the top number. So,
56 / 7 x 6 = 48 and
56 / 8 x 3 = 21
Then take the 21 away from 48 and put that over 56 and see if you can divide it down. So
48 - 21 = 27
27/56 can't be made any smaller so that is your answer. I think.

First find a common denominator (bottom of your fraction). The easiest way is to multiply 7 times 8. You then multiply the numerator( top number) by the others factors factor.6 times 8 and 3 times 7.Rewrite as 48/56-21/56=27/56. Reduce if you can. This is why you need to know how to factor! Go through your numbers and see if you can get one to divide into both. Also never subtract denominators!

I was gonna answer, but Gare has it perfectly correct and has put it succinctly and, well, deserves the 10 points.
But thanks for my 2.
