Mice and snakes do not always avoid humans. Pet mice and snakes seek humans out because our smell is associated with feeding.
In the wild a mouse or a snake doesn't fear humans directly, or else they wouldn't enter our homes because our scent is everywhere. Rather they have an instinct to fear things that are larger than them. Predators are usually larger than prey, and so mice and snakes assume that we must be predators. When they see or hear something that they perceive to be large and moving, they will leave in hopes that the "predator" doesn't see them.
In captivity mice and snakes can learn to trust humans through offerings of food and never hurting them. If anything, mice or snakes tend to be annoyed by humans in captivity.

Any animal will go out of it's way to avoid humans. We are the number 1 threat to ALL species on the planet (including humans) and they know this. Because of the snakes and mice size they are more elusive.

Because they are two very misunderstood animals. Mice and rats spread diseases, though rats are very affectionate. And snakes have almost always been made out to be evil animals. As human beings we avoid these two animals.

due to knowlege passed down, through dna, parent and experience they learn that. humans are a potenial killer, and fear humans, humans are highly likely to kill them.. due to fear and seeing them as a nuscience, or vermin.
its sorta like how humans fear tigers or lions it because in our ansestors lifes these would kill them so therefore humans develop a fear and avoid wild animals, its the same for the poor mice and snakes.
i think mice are cute,

They know the minute they get into contact with humans they will be caught and stuck into a cage or be killed. Good thinking from their part.
