I need my heart and my brain, but I'd settle for the heart.

Soul!
Yes! Even there is proper functioning heart or that of brain or the lungs or the kidney, whatever it may be, but if there is no soul in the body, then it is of utter waste to the beholder.
According to me, SOUL is needed, essential of course, to live!

Well, without your heart, you wouldn't be able to live at all. Without your brain, you wouldn't be able to think or move. So, I think your heart is more important to live.
