Start->internet->more internet applications->kppp.

If u r using RHEL or Fedora with gnome desktop.

I'm a little confused by your question. When you transfer data over the internet, it is all sent as data - not text data, not photo data, just data. It is up to the software at the receiving end (i.e. the browser) to determine what type of data it is receiving and display it accordingly. The point I'm making is that as far as an internet connection is concerned, there is no difference between text and a photo.

well you can telnet to a specific server if thats what you are asking otherwise you can just use a browser like firefox
