Great replies, guys, outstanding response, honestly, makes me wonder why you respond when you don't have anything constructive to say!

Yes i'm aware it's a very old, very crap PC running windows 98, unfortunately replacing the system isn't pratical, nore is it my decision. It's basically used purely for receiving/filtering spam emails. However i've been asked to reassociate the images to a program that will open them easily which is where i need help.

Please don't respond to this unless you have a constructive suggetion.

Double Click on My Computer - Choose Tools - Folder Options, then pick the 'File Types' tab.

A list of all the file types on your computer should appear after a brief period. Here is where you can choose which program handles each extension.

You are right, however, assigning a default application for a file extension does involve right clicking it while holding the button and choosing the option "Open With"

In the 'Open With' dialogue box, you will see an option to "always use this program to open this file".. or something to that effect.
