If you have a bad wheel bearing it will make more noise on th side that is bad when you go around curves on road, - the one on the outside of trun, -- gets much heavier load, than the one on the "inside of turn"! So the heaviest loaded bearing will naturally make the most noise (if bad). You can also jack up car, and spin the wheels with "no load" on them, the "bad" one will make noise-Good bearings will make very little noise (which is actually other asscociatged thingswithin the wheel hub)--- theoretically good bearings make no noise at all! You will have to jack up the end of car with "drive wheels", -block other wheels, and put secure "blocks" under car, so it can't fall down (and drive away unexpecxtedly).. you can then put car in gear, and let wheels spin. The "bad side" will be a lot more noisy than the "good side", - be advised there will be a ceartian amount of "drivetrain noise" that you will hear also. So don't expect "quitet" like the non driven wheels have when turning!
Before you actually "tear into the car", - remove the wheels and check your brake pads,-(most cars have disk brakes now), -- if you have a "dragging", - or clicking sound, - it could be the brake pads getting worn down, ----instead of a wheel bearing. Wheel bearings make a kind of "grinding. -or gritty" noise!

If you have a bad wheel bearing the pitch will change when turning. you should also check to make sure that you tires are not cupped. this will cause a humming or roaring noise also

Drive close to a retaining wall or barrier with the window open on that side. You will hear it louder...echoing off the barrier if it is on that side. If not, try it on the other side just to be sure.
