I am assuming you are talking about the situation in Iraq.

Remember, it was Kennedy who ordered the Bay of Pigs Invasion, Clinton who ordered the bombing of Yugoslavia. Democrat or Republican makes no difference. They are both funded by huge conglomerates. Some even fund both!

I wouldn't expect much of a change on the Iraq front; the political game remains the same; the Middle East is crucial to Western Interests, especially if North-East Asia gets its act together and created a caucus of energy users (China-India) and producers (Russia, and ex-USSR states).

In terms of government policies, one thing that Clinton did well was reduce the budget deficit, and ultimately the dependency of the US on the rest of the world. However, Bush undid that and gave huge tax breaks and advantages ot the very rich. It will not be that easy for the Democrats to reverse that; after all they also have very rich supporters..

Frankly I don't see much change going to take place. The political platforms avoided real bread and butter issues to focus on the peripherals of stem cell research for example. Not that this is an important issue, but it directly affects the lives of only a few.

As long as these two parties hold sway, the system will remain.

And I think we should look towards France who reformed its Republican system over and over when it was getting stale...

There is not a lot the Democrats can do to force the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq - Congress does not have the power to do that, it lies with the President who is Commander in Chief of the military.

What they can do is to start to withold funding for operations in Iraq, but this is a very difficult balancing act as they do not want to leave themselves open to accusations of putting troops' lives in danger.

What I think they will do is to force the President, by financial means, to come up with some exit strategy. For example, a senior Democrat, Senator Carl Levin, yesterday floated the idea that they should force the Iraqi government to give a date by which they wanted US troops out, and then the President should start withdrawing four to six months before that date.

There other tactic will be to show the American people that their domestic policies work so much better than the Republican policies, so that they win back the White House in 2008, and a Democratic President can start to pull out of Iraq. But until they get control of the White House, their room for manoeuvre is limited.

Democrats in the US like to talk a lot, blow a bunch of hot air...in reality, they will do very little different from GWB, who is a moderate conservative at best.
The only feasible difference in Republicans and Democrats in America anymore is that Democrats advocate BIG government, BIG taxation, BIG brother...they like to prey on the "middle class" working America and the very small "wealthy" population to fund their BIG programs.
It's popular for the press to bash Bush and everything he does, because we have a liberal minded media, owned by liberal bigwigs. Don't let it fool you. If the Democrats get into office, it will be only with a middle of the road liberal which in all actuality, isn't but a stone's throw from GWB's politics anyway.
Just my point of view, being from America and all.

Well the Republicans have done nothing for years..

I bet you will see some change soon. Especially, with assessing the situation as a whole and drawing up some kind of plan.

The Dems have not actually come into power in Congress yet. Wait until January 2007 (they can't really do much until they have been sworn into offcie!!) :)
