In basketball, that will probably translate to better stability when it comes to boxing out for a rebound and may even give you slightly better footwork overall. To increase your vertical leap, the proven technique is to try doing depth jumps or jumping down from a height. Or even any other exercise that involves isolating your calf muscles can help even slightly.

No, not really. I mean, just about any kind of exercise is going to help your jump, so you don't have to worry about that. The ankle weights are going to help, and if they put more stress on your calves when your jumping rope, well that's just peachy. But the fact that you use the while jumping rope doesn't do too much, seeing as how a jump rope exercise is designed to increase agility and stamina, not your leap. The ankle weights are good though. I suggest using them in various other exercises, like box jumps, leg lifts, etc. The jump rope, like I said, is made for agility and stamina primarily, so, if you continue using it, then add in box jumps and leg lifts, your jump will slowly develop, and the jump rope will only make you have more of an explosive jump.

Normally for vertical leaping they use these funny looking shoes that make the person stand on the front tips of their feet. It also makes you jump from them. Below is a site that has those kind of shoes. I remember my brother using this type of shoe when he was learning to dunk and doing high jump in high school.

Jumping rope can help, but the important thing is learn to jump from the toes and not flat footed. Try incorporating the jump rope with the type of shoes I mentioned and that should help more.

Wearing ankle weights while doing any kind of excercise will make your legs stronger but are not the most efficient way to increase your verticle leap. This is because (simplified)the weight is at the bottom of your body. It would be better to wear a weighted vest so the leg muscles are actually fighting the resistance early in your leap.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Yes, alittle. Jumping rope is more of a muscle endurance exercise...so you will be able to jump for a longer amount of time. To increase your hang time you should do muscle strength exercises. Technically, a max stength exercise is a lift of maximum force against max resistance (only one rep). I suggest front and parallel squats with heavy weights (10 reps) along with heel raisers with weight...if you don't know how, get a trainer or someone to show you.
