No. A lie is a complete fabrication, whereas a half-truth is a very targeted response.

You have not lied, but you haven't told the full truth.

To wit "I was at the office, taking care of things."

Of course, he doesn;t reveal that "The Office" is the name of a bar.

No its not a complete lie. A half-truth is just a response that leads a person, giving them the opportunity to believe whatever they want. usually a half-truth is due to facts that have not been included.

Hello,Lady;)

It depends on whether the inquiry was explained fully as a whole question or just a yes or no question...
Then any answer given could be taken as a half truth be the ASKER...
But if explained fully ,then the answer would ,if given the chance be explained fully,if given the chance to do so...

Thank You

Depends on what you have done. Live by the rule that if they don't know will hurt them. So if you only told the half of the story there is still half a story still out there floating around. So my question to you is, is it worth it? If so, half is better than nothing.

Omission of the detail of a factual event, idea, situation or personal behaviour is clumsy, perhaps irresponsible, but it is not a lie.

Even If the intention is to mislead is there, you factually have not told an untruth, have you?

How can I be responsible for another persons perception? Do I have to do their thinking for them, too?

yes of course. As long as you didn't tell the truth it is also considered as lie.

Not always. Half-truth is sometimes plain prudence.

Yes, you are still not being honest. Any time you hide something or don't tell the whole truth you are lying.
