The three big ones are:
1) Labour
2) Conservative
3) Liberal Democrat
Although the BNP (British National Party) seem to be gaining momentum, unfortunately.

Hi, I would like to give a Scottish answer, as we have a devolved Parliament here.
Scottish National Party .
The only party that stands for Scottish Independence.
New Labour
Liberal Democrats
They try to make Parliament work. Both these Parties want a united G.B.
The Greens
Self explanatory, also Independent Scotland.
Other Parties.
Independent, Socialists
Now there is the parliament you were asking about.
It has the following Parties:
New Labour, The Conservative & Unionsts, Liberal Democratic
Scottish National, Plaid Cymru, [Welsh Nationalists], Independents, Independent Labour, Democratic Unionists, [N. Ireland], Sinn Fein, [N. Ireland], Social Democratic & Labour [N. Ireland.] Ulster Unionists,[N. Ireland
I trust this answer your question

The Main Two:
Labour Party
(supposedly socialist in its leanings but actually a complete fecking joke right now - this is the party in power, Tony Blair's party). American equivalent to Labour Party would be more like the Democrats
Conservative Party (the opposition) led by David Cameron.
Slightly more right-orientated - American equivalent would be sort of like the Republicans
The third "major" party:
Liberal Democrat: like the name says. Outsiders who never get into power but usually get a good few seats.
Others:
BNP (British Nationalist Party) - far right - led by Nick Griffin - recently in court for saying he didn't trust Muslims. BNP have gained a lot of support recently because of the state this country is in with crime, immigration, terrorism, povertym unemployment and homelessness
Socialist Workers Party - commies
Green party - Tree hugging hippies
SNP - Scottish Nationalist Party - active only in Scotland
Plaid Cymru - Welsh Nationalist Party - active only in Wales (where I am from - and they're as much use as a chocolate teapot, all they care about is how many people speak Welsh, they don't give a toss about crime, homelessness, jobs and poverty in Wales, which is why I never waste my vote on them).
Democratic Unionist Party - Active in Northern Ireland on behalf of the Unionists (Protestants - those who want to stay with the UK)
Sinn Fein - Active in Northern Ireland on behalf of the Republicans (Catholics - those who want to be part of Eire,)
Lots of other smaller parties - UK Independence Party etc etc Can't remember them all - Google them for more info. None of them will ever get into power but they will sometimes get a few seats in the House of Commons if people use a "protest vote" and vote for a smaller party rather than one of the main two.

The two biggest are Conservative and Labour (in power at the moment). The next largest behind those is the Liberal Democrats, but there are quite a few smaller ones like BNP, UKIP (UK Indpendence Party), Green Party, Respect, Monster Raving Looney party (not sure if they actually have any MPs but it does exist).

The UK has not been a two-party state for decades, even longer than I've been alive (and I'm no spring chicken).
The big three are Labour (mad left-wingers originally, bordering on communism), Conservative (the guys that used to represent the landed classes, i.e. If you had wealth and breeding you could vote, but certainly none of those scummy peasants were allowed to) and the Liberal Democrats, formerly the Liberals, and even more formerly the Whigs - they were the leading party a hundred and more years ago.
We even have silly little parties like Respect - only one elected member, but his name is George Galloway - you may have heard of him, If not - google it and have a good laugh.
Personally I'd like the Libdems to win soon - their leader's given name is "Menzies" which is pronounced "Ming" - then we could have an "Emperor Ming" instead of a "P.M. Liar".
Well Done Germany, Angela is REALLY cool..
