What SHOULD they try to do? What should be left to the private sector? Do you expect to pay more or less for government services as opposed to finding a similar service in the private sector? Why should we even bother with govenerment? Do you trust government agencies? Is Big Government bad? Is Big Business bad?

WOW! A lot of questions!

Ideally, government agencies should do what is best for the people they govern. I'm not sure what country you are in, but why should we pay for government services? Don't all citizens of almost all countries already "pay" for government services through taxes?

And when was the last time you saw a group of people without a government? It won't work. Humans need leadership of some sort. All groups of people from the beginning of time have had government of some form. Even tribes in Africa still have "Chiefs" as do the Native American tribes in America. Someone or group must govern a group of people. Unfortunately, we are "sheep" and need leadership.

In a perfect world the government would have a dual role of making business run easy for a healthy economy. The government would mainly have to protect the public from huge business working against the public. Such as when Reagan relaxed a bunch of rules, that allowed large media outlets to merge. In the 1970's people could get news from a thousand independent newspapers and broadcasts. Today all of it is owned by 6 people or companies, and they reporters &editors) have to keep the owners and advertisers happy. So the press very freely censures its self. You obviosly get the news (the news they let be told) in a very skewed way.

I expect government agencies to quit early on Fridays. I expect them to refer you to another government agency instead of saying, "I don't know the answer to that, but I will find out". I expect them to be jaded.

I expect the government to be in bed with big business, so that the voice of the people is drowned out by the omnipotence of the powerful.
