Mobile Phone Handset?

I have a mobile that is on a pay as you go in the Uk however I may have to move back home to Australia. Can I take out my UK sim card and put my Australian one in?? Will the UK phone work in Australia with an aussie sim card??? I would ultimately like to use the phone I have in the UK at home as it is better than my old one

If your phone is unlocked and supports the same band (frequency) as the Australian carrier you can use the phone.
