It in essence means that society has created the person (the way they act socially or interact with others), just look at different cultures and you will see the way they differ from your own, therefore they are the product of society.

Here are some helpful webpages although when i studied sociology i found that books were the best.

Good luck

Emile was saying that people are the products of their environments, they act, develop, reproduce characteristics (etc) that are simliar to those around them. It produces a cycle, parents teach children certain things, then they will teach their children similar beliefs/morals and so on.
Society, as a bigger scale, can be seen this way. Our soceity basically defines our morals, mores, values, etc and when we deviate we are sanctioned. Therefore, most of us act in ways that are beneficial to our environment... we take part in the value consensus that most people hold true.

It means most of us are categorized and systematized.
We become like machines programed by device.
We are compelled and obliged to be and do as trained and instructed, by those who rarely nurture or accept you otherwise. It means we are spawned in devotion to dominant tribe, tribute and trinket.
It means we are taught to place culture and adherence ahead of community...consumption and compliance ahead of communion...possession and self protection ahead of evenhanded and equate able participation.

These kinds of isolated patterns all over society and civilization repeated in isolation's until globalization and the age of communication revealed that we now need to become more commonly grounded.

I thing it means that we don't chose the way we will live and we just follow the example of the other people who also didn't have the right to chose...
