What is included in renting a room?

I am buying a house next year and want to rent a room. I notice most people give people access to the kitchen and laundry room. My problem is that I don't want to give access to my living room. Is living room access usually expected?

I believe you do need to give them access to your living room, unless the room the room is in your basement. I would get a lock for your bedroom though.
