I don't read the answers before I write my answer because I don't want to be influenced by the others, but that wasn't your question. I read them all and I agree with you that the first few get all of the votes regardless of quality. A quality answer, such as this one, that clearly deserves the extra ten points (hint, hint, wink, wink!), take longer to type then the cheap one-liners and therefore get pushed behind all the junk at the top. Normally I would say that cream rises to the top but not in this case.

i select questions with fewer responses. that way i am able to read all the answers usually upto 15. if there r some 20/30 responses, i bother not to vote on that. also, if none of the answers r good enough, i click on 'no best answer'.
i think its important to read all the answers so that the deserving person gets the points. but i do agree, that at times the first answer although not the best gets quite a few votes

Yes I do and I also read all the answers before I answer a question. I get some good laughs with some of these answers. This is my daily free entertainment, also scary, it scares me to think that some of these people answering these questions will be the next adult generation and totally uneducated.

just like right now there are 5 answers but i don't know what they are because i want to give my answer and not answer to some ones answer but by the time i get my answer up it mocks most other answers . some time when i answer and no one else has by the time it's posted i'm at the bottom of the list sometimes i look at the answers and if someone has the same answer i go on to an other site .

I read all the answers until I find one that I completely agree with. Then I vote for it.

that's because people have already voted for them and then someone else writes an answer that wasn't there before. so when the next person votes they vote for the ones that were already there plus the new ones. so the new ones have less votes.
i hope this makes sense to you. it made sense to me when i was thinking it. ha ha....wink.

I do read them all. What I pick as best answer really depends on my mood. Funny/witty answers are a sure winner!
