I want to read a good book about girls..friendship.. kinda like the movie now and then. Any suggestions?

I've never seen the movie Now and Then, but the book King Fortis the Brave has a great subplot featuring the friendship between two girls, one (Aimee) a girl from New York who is pulled into this magical world and the other (Gillian) who is a young warrior from an Amazon-like tribe in this world. Really a great book!
