It is possible to get information about your ancestors. First look at the surname you are using and are there any in south Africa with that surname. Are there any other surti muslims there and any community organizations? The elders there can be of immense help. You can check up with the sociology or social-anthropology people at the university in SA. Try to find if any groups are on the net which help in such matters. And ofcourse the links suggested by others are also useful. Good luck
