Because she wasn't ready and she firmly believed that she would have left them men if she had walked down the aisle with them. It isn't that she doesn't want to get married but they were not right for a number of various reasons. Anyway, she gets a lot of questions from people, especially women, who criticize her for not snagging a guy 'when she got a free one and got the chance'. How do you deal with these people? Isn't this personal? I mean, why would people tell you you're lucky to have anyone to marry at all? Should anyone be that desperate about marriage?

it would be her problem and not yours. "she was not ready" by your account. How do you know that she would have left the men who asked her? there is too much detail for you to be an outsider to her head.

Your friend needs to let these people that it's her life and she is living it the way that she wants to. Surely with the divorce rate as high as it is its better that she doesn't just marry a guy because they feel that she needs to or because she is at the age when other think that she should get married. She will know when it feels right and she has to make her own decisions about it, after all it is her life.

These people that tell your friend this just need to leave her alone, if your friend is happy with her life surely this is the most important thing. If she was complaining about the fact that she couldn't find a guy and that she wanted to get married then they would have a reason to talk, but as she isn't they need to leave her be

Wow, that's ridiculous!!
How stupid and petty.

Those people should get lives, man!
Your friend is wise. If she's not ready then she should NOT be getting married!
My sister and I both got engaged three times and turned them down before it was too late. My third engagement was a keeper, though, but my sis still is not married. She is 24 going on 25 and is considered "old" here to not be married, BUT WHO FREAKIN CARES?! You find the right one at the right time when you're doing the right things, despite age, etc.

Good luck to your friend. Just be polite to those ignorant people and thank them for their care, concern and suggestions. NO reason to start a fight or offend anyone cuz of ignorance, ya know?

Yes, it is extremely rude for people to badger your friend about not getting married. She made absolutely the right choice - marriage is nothing to go into lightly, and I'm glad your friend recognizes that!

As for these horribly rude people, perhaps when they bring up the subject of her turning down marriage proposals she should start talking about her recent bout with projectile vomiting or explosive diarrhea - after all, if they are that interested in her life, they should know ALL the details!

Of course you shouldn't "snag" one just to have a man, and of course your friend is right in being careful to choose wisely. As for people who would question or criticise her about this, they are either unbelievably rude or equally unbelievably stupid. In either case, a raised eyebrow, an icy stare, and an incredulous "Why on earth would you ask me something like that???" should suffice.

No, they shouldn't! Your friend should just ignore those ignorant people. She appears to have enough sense to know when a man isn't the right one for her; good for her! We should never settle for anything less that what we truly want!

Why is she going around telling people about it if she said no? She sounds unfeeling, selfish...and she's an attention wh0re. And no, no one should be that desperate...but she's obviously desperate in another kind of way.
