Coiuld you suggest some calming, soothing music - no words - that is suitable for a funeral for a beloved elderly lady?
Nothing too depressing or too stirring. Sort of like elevator music, I suppose. But with some character.

Thanks people. I shall look into a few of your suggestions.
The reason why we want to choose music that isn't too personal is because we my husband is devestated at the death of his mother and I'm worried about him. If we can bury her with dignity and love it will be easier al round.

What about Debussys Clair De Lune? It's of a much better standard than elevator music, everybody has heard of it and it meets the criteria that you describe.

Verdi's Requiem. It is an orchestral and choral piece which starts quite loud and rough, but as the piece progresses, it calms down to a very gentle and peaceful ending.

It is the musical story of the death of a loved one - the turmoil through which you and your family are going, followed by the acceptance of your loss and finishing with the realisation that your elderly relative is happy and at peace.

It is the piece I will be asking to be played at my own funeral.

why not choose the type of music that she liked, it would mean a lot more than a piece of music that has been randomly picked.
funerals no longer have to have the old style music that they used to have.
my brother chose his own music for his and it was all tunes that had meaning to him ( plus he was a bit of a joker ), he started with, don't think twice it's alright by lonnie donnegan, then comfortably numb by pink floyd, then finished with what a wonderful world by Louis armstrong,
although they brought tears they also brought lots of smiles.
so try thinking of what she liked or what would have meaning or some her up in some way.

good luck and i hope all goes well.

Have a listen to Classic FM they play some decent stuff. Anything by Bach is always good.
