It's nice to see so many enlightened answers so there must be hope yet that this problem will one day disappear. Our Anglo son is married to a Chinese woman and I can say we have no problem with that. As for why some people have a problem with such relationships I can only assume they haven't yet realised that we are all human beings who probably evolved from the same beginning.

Mostly, survival instinct. If a person's self concept depends on association with a group based on race/color; so that they perceive all other ethnicities as "other", then interracial relationships are a threat to their groups survival. In some cases, a threat to their groups power.
Also, like moo...cow said, preservation of their culture.

Some people think the problems encountered while being out with bigots around preclude crossing the racial line. It's not worth it to them personally to date outside their race because there are still racists on both sides giving them problems.

I don't have a problem with it at all. Some people are just stupid and think that every1 should stick to pple of their own kind...
I'm half black and half indian. My boyfriend's white. I think mixing it up is a wonderful thing.

Bigotry plain and simple. Either they are bigotted or they are afraid they will be persecuted by the bigots. My dad is married to a really sweet and smart black woman and they have a beautiful daughter. I think it is a shame that people cannot get beyond skin color to see the beauty within.

Some more traditional type will also be concerned about the "purity" of their offspring and the "dilution" of their culture and values. I disagree. The mixing of genes and mixing of cultures only give rise to more diversity and beauty in the world.
