My last period started on 12 sep, so thought I was 9 weeks pregnant today... but went for a dating scan yesterday and they say I am only 6 weeks pregnant...that doesn't fit in with any ovulation date (or even a few days either side) So how can this be?
They have booked my 12 week scan & bloods for down syndrome tests for 6 weeks time. But if I am further gone than they think won't I have missed the time that these bloods can be tested?
Which dates are right, mine or theirs? Could my baby just be small for its number of weeks or not? The did a tansvaginal scan
Thanks

thanks for your answers so far...I am still a little worried though....if it turns out that I am 9 weeks, my next scan will be too late to test for downs won't it?

Amy M...they did find a heartbeat...but that doesn't mean your baby isn't ok..it may be that mine is a bit older but just small, hence finding the heartbeat.
If I was you I would ask for another scan in a couple of week to check things are ok?
When did they say your next one would be?

they usually are pretty good - the problem with your dates is that you are counting from your last period - not from two weeks before you next period WOULD have happened. As you cant know for sure when that would have been (it might have been going to be late) you cant really estimate yourself very well.
The medical community are pretty practiced at this, so you need to trust them a bit. - Voice your concerns though.

Hi there, i'd definitly get a couple more opinions off GP's or possibly even Nhs helpline and pregnancy websites/magazines if i were you.
My scan date is only a week different to what my GP worked out with period dates and that bugs me, so if they were 3weeks out i'd be totally baffled/frustrated, especially as I am totally getting in2 the week by week growth charts u can find online etc...definitly also I understand why the concern about the tests...I have mine next week and of course you want 2 know u r having it at the correct times....good luck x

Dating aren't 100% perfect. My due date kept changing by a few dates either side but my friend, who was pregnant at the same time, her dates were changed by weeks both ways.
Don't worry too much about it, they scanned me every fortnight and still accused me of having MY dates wrong because my daughter was small! Baby will come when its ready anyway so trust your body more than anything else.
good luck xx

Your due dates are from your last period so cannot be 100% as to when you ovulated as this can change each mth you have a mthly and a scan date can be more accurate as they go by how your baby has formed and what it should be like during each wk of pregnancy. Enjoy when the babies ready to come out you'll know.

The scanned EDD is estimated by the size/length of your foetus. It is just a reference comparing to the normal foetus recorded. It might not be accurate as different foetus might grow at a different rate. Go ahead with all the scheduled tests. Do not bother about the dates yet. You will for sure get the exact EDD along your 2nd trimester. Just relax and enjoy your pregnancy to the fullest. Congratulation!!

Don't worry. The early ultrasound is 97% accurate. It is plus or minus 3 days and you are way outside that, so yes you're US dates are correct.
As for being late on testing. It sounds like they're doing first trimester screening and if you missed this, there is an AFP done in the second trimester for people outside the first trimester. Either way, they are taking good care of you.

scan dates usually allow for approximatly 2 weeks either way so dont panic, but dont worry about the bloods i think they can test for that right the way upto 20 weeks or something dont worry too much im sure everything will be absolutly fine

That a hard one to answer. Normally the radiographer is quite accurate with sizing and dates. Could you be wrong with your dates?? I would book an appointment to see your midwife and express your concern, I would try not to start worrying yet, Speak to her and see what she says, shes the expert. Good luck xx

You definitly are 9weeks and 1day pregnant today, because i am exactly 2 weeks behind you. You normally count your due date from the first day you started your last period. Good luck and congratz.
