Since you cannot afford to spend much and cannot work with your hands for long time you have to find alternate channel for diverting your energy. One such thing is Philately Learn about stamp collection and start collecting Used stamps which are cheap. Make thematic designs by pasting them in the prescribed way and sell them in philatelic exhibitions. Beautifully expressed ides are always appreciated and it will give you incentive. Collect songs(record them and catalogue them and you can work as a bureau of music for any one who wants information)
I know that Gemini are always fond of music.

Dear Foxlady, I should say your "life" begins now. All this time you were like a robot , doing something for someone else. Not anymore. You are free.

If you took 40 years to get out .You can take 40 months more , to slowly choose , ONE BY ONE , your passion . There will be that initial vaccum, imaginary though. You donot know what you are good at. It takes time till you find recognition for some of your talents and then you are off.

What i did or do are the following.
1. I plan for my tomorrow in such a way that it is slightly different from today. today was different from yesterday. I add something different in my routine. It could be anything.
2. Once a month I get away for 3 days , travelling somewhat differently, by bus/train instead of flying.

3. I joined Rotary club and that brought 30 friends immediately. It costs some money but it is worth it. There are similar clubs called Innerwheel club , Lions club. These are service organisations . But they are also socially actice clubs .

4.Start writing . On anything that you find interesting .

leave out inhibitions, overlook your self imposed limitations. You are Go..Go...

I think you touch upon the major problem - once you do get to retire and use your freetime, generally, you're in a worse physical (and sometimes mental) condition than when you were a wage slave. The whole system is slavery - the employers and government get the best from your mind and body and once you're tired and old you get "set free".

Not meaning to sound insulting to you, just the system, which I consider unfair.

You sound like you'd benefit from travel and new experiences. I guess the trick would be to find like-minded people and pool your resources. Imagine co-owning a little villa abroad that you could all use - or group discounts on trips. You don't fancy charity work - what about charity work abroad?

How i can relate to you as I'm disabled and confined to a wheelchair, and yes life is hard and very boring but my computer opened up a whole new world for me,depending on how disabled you are how about joining up with some clubs or a darts team at your local pub,you could even go to the gym and get fit and make new friends at the same time,i used to go and it's a great place to go,but please try not to sit at home alone get out there and meet some new people,I did look up chat rooms for the disabled and there are some but i have not gone there yet, whatever you choose to do i wish you well my friend

Gemini; you've got to have a reason to get up in the morn'
With a retirement income; you can do anything that tickles your fancy. The only thing you can't do is nothin' Got something that's been tickling the back of your mind? Some pet peeve about society that only a man on a mission can influence? Own that sucker. If not, well, I'm sure you will find one soon enough. Here's mine, I'm not retired yet, but if I had the time, I think I could make it pay for itself. http://judgeright.blogspot.com

getting out of the rat race is the best thing that can happen to you. :)

As per other suggestions, look at what your hobbies and interests are, and if you feel thats not enough, what things have you wanted to learn or do, within reason, that you now have time to follow up? Heehee, I would have suggested doing something like joining the Sealed Knot and doing historical re-enactments...

Life can get better TODAY!! Ever heard the saying, " You are only as old as you FEEL"? You are only as mentally healthy as your mind allows you to be. If you convince yourself your life is boring, your mind will agree and automatically adjust itself to suit the new direction. Break the mold. Do something spontaneous. Something completely out of character. You may surprise yourself.

the greatest killer of people who retire is boredom and the lack of cerebral stimuli they receive so consider

1. working as a consultant in your area of expertise
2. working with the young - apprenticeships support
3. tour guide of a museum or place of fine art
4. work part time in an art gallery
5. attend training course in something you enjoy
6. set yourself a mission to visit as many art galleries as you can and offer to write about them for a local magazine

good luck

figure out what hobbies you really enjoy and then make time to pursue them. Take some classes, explore and experiment until you find your niche. meet new people, look for the simple things to enjoy in life and dont take one single day for granted because you never know when it will all end.
