I found this from a book called Vacation under the Volcano by Mary Pope Osborne.

'Ancient' means very old.
'Roman' means from the period of the Roman empire
'Town' you can probably guess.

This children's book is about the old city of Pompeii which was distroyed by the eruption of mount Vesuvias in ad.79.

Maybe she was refering to Pompei, that's an ancient roman town in the shadow of a volcano.
