This is the difference between today's generation who never saw a war and those who did in the past.

War is war. War is hell.
There are no innocents in war.

I have never heard anyone lamenting over the millions of French and German civilians dying during World War II.

If you want a war, you need to accept the fact that you might die. Saddam Hussein was given every chance to prevent war... But he did choose to play silly bugger like he had done in 1991.

If Saddam Hussein did not care about his citizens... Why should we? Why do we need to be the nice guys all the time, while dealing with the scum of the Earth....

Same goes with Lebanon. The Lebanese government support a group of terrorists which is attacking Israel.
Results?
People say that the Israelis are the bad guys for killing lebanese civilians.

Every terrorist is a coward hiding behind the skirt of a civilian woman. When you protect the civilian, you protect the terrorist.

However, if you stop protecting the civilian... he will turn around and kill the terrorist himself when he gets tired of seeing his friends and family dying for nothing.

for those who don't read properly perahaps i should clarify the question ... or at least as i see it.

in iraq, has the removal of saddam actually been a good thing for the people of iraq and the world?

from what i am seeing, no. it is a blood bath there at the moment. i see no benefit in that when it didn't exist to this degree before hand. the humanitarian crimes there are even worse and more horrifying that anything saddam came up with.... the whole this is just one huge f***ing disaster.

I dont think innocent and Iraqi should be in the same sentence. There is no such thing.
Whats that line from "Full Metal Jacket"

Git some! Git some! Git some, yeah, yeah, yeah! Anyone that runs, is a VC. Anyone that stands still, is a well-disciplined VC! You guys oughta do a story about me sometime!

Private Joker: Why should we do a story about you?

Door Gunner: 'Cuz I'm so fuckin' good! I done got me 157 dead gooks killed. Plus 50 water buffalo too! Them's all confirmed!

Private Joker: Any women or children?

Door Gunner: Sometimes!

Private Joker: How can you shoot women or children?

Door Gunner: Easy! Ya just don't lead 'em so much! Ain't war hell?

if this is a question of statistics -- good and andy -- the answer will be coming when the hostilities end. one short answer is "too many". now, as to the name calling including in other responses that is a NO, NO in this platform. To compare the number of death before or after Saddam regime -- questions the validity of "why" -- we the humans do things, whether war, medicine, schooling and a host of other activities. In principle -- not for the principle but hopefully to "save lives so that those who remain will leave better lives than those who are killed", that is the aim. whether we achieve it is another question-answer. i rest my case.
