Still in fashion here. Isn't it annoying that R&B is now taken to mean rythm and bass, not music.

Blues is NEVER unfashionable, it just manages to stay out of the mainstream, to avoid being tainted by the crap in the charts. Having said that, the White Stripes have a lot of blues-influenced songs.

I like Muddy Waters, but I LOVE Robert Johnson!

Ah... how could anyone ever HATE blues? I don't think it's "fashionable" though. That's just because sheeple would rather listen to hip-hop. The other day an older woman at work turned on the blues channel on the xm. The reaction amongst the younglings immersed in the hip-hop culture was along the lines of "EWWW!!!" "Turn if OFF", "What happened to the Beyonce song?". If you get MTV to play blues, maybe people will like it again! ;-D

Blues has that surprising ability to hit us when we least expect it. Simple blues sounds good, but hearing great players play simply sounds heart wrenching due to the amount of emotion they put into it. Robert Johnson, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Ry Cooder to name but a few can totally blow you away with their playing. It's always been fashionable in both it's origins and the way new bands learn and incorporate it into their sound. One day (I found) I heard a piece of slide guitar that was the most emotive piece of music I'd ever heard. It blew me away and made me feel like my heart was breaking, it hit me that much!! That's what the blues is to me!

so do I man. look at The White Stripes, they re-vamped blues and made it popular. so many bands are doing it these days, but unfortunetly main stream crap rules the airwaves. hopefully it will change for the better, and blue is at the root of that revolution.
