If you think you have a problem, then you probably do.
And you probably aren't weak. I was a drunk for a long time, and I don't think I am/was weak or have ever been described as such.
Addiction is a maddening, baffling, difficult affliction, and any attempt to use pure logic to talk yourself out of it will fail. No one hates the addict like the addict. But even the realization that it's got you, and that it leads to no good in your life is not enough.
It goes deeper than that. People think getting out of it is just a matter of will power - I did for years, and that's why I fell flat and relapsed over and over.
If you are worried do something about it. AA is probably your best bet, but it doesn't work for everybody.
But one thing is for sure, it will never get any easier than it is right now, and if you head down the road into full-blown, severe alcoholism, you will eventually either have to quit or you will lose everything you have, your job, your family, your friends, and lastly, your freedom and/or your life.
There is help available, but there aren't any quick, easy fixes; just a conscious reordering of priorities, activities, stimuli that is percieved as pleasurable - the works - and a lifetime of coping, with being willing to deal with pain as it comes, instead of trying to run from it. Most addicts feel too much, let things get to them, then try to use chemicals or sex of food or shopping or whatever to mitigate the pain. Try not to take the world too seriously.
Good luck. Write to me if you think I can be of any help. You don't want to go to the places I did. Really.

they had a doctor once who was brillant and his friends(also doctors) wondered why does he start drinking and doesn't stop until he's made a fool of himself. So, they did some test and found out the liver produces 4 different enzymes and when one was real low while the others climbed he'd get this urge to drink.
So, drinking is not only heredertary, it is cureable. Drinking is like anything else...too much of anything is not good for you. I don't drink anymore but I used to be a drunk. Sometimes willpower works because we all have a free will. Sometimes it takes the power of God. You're not weak .... you're just someone who asked a really good question.

DO NOT LAUGH! Of all the millions of references to answer your Q available on the face of this earth, the best answer will come by you spending about $7 and buying a book called Alcoholics Anonymous. It may be available at the library or a book store, but could be obtained more discretely at a local AA place [use your phone book]. You are not a weak person, but you may see yourself in some of the writings, only you can decide if any of it fits you and answers some of your questions. You may write me at greyhoundgreg@sbcglobal.net

Cheers!!!
Nobody can tell you why you do this. But if you make up your mind that you aren't going to drink on Monday, and can't maintain your resolve... you may be losing control.
I don't think that makes you a weak person, you just may have a weakness.
