The One Ring was forged by the Dark Lord in secret without the ringmakers knowledge who created the Elven Rings, The Dwarf Rings and the Rings of Men.
It was a 'master ring' capable of manipulating the lesser rings and was made with some of his own self so as to be 'his' ring for as long as it existed.
The One Ring is a masterpiece of intellectual thought and creation like Excalibur and will exist in The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings book and in the minds of their readers for ages to come.

Nobody else seems to have read the story.

The answer is that the Lord of the Rings gave a ring to each of the kings of middle earth and kept a special ring for himself. His ring gave him power over all the kings and their subjects. With that ring on Saaron's finger her was all powerful and intimidating. It wasn't until Aragon's father cut the ring off of Saaron's finger that the kings were able to end Saaron's reign of terror. Of course every one wanted the ring for themself, to be powerful and intimidating. That is why the ring disappeared. Each time it was found people killed to possess until finally it landed into the hands or Smeegle who it turned into the Golem. It might have done the same thing to Bilbo had he not given it away to Frodo. Hobbits are good hearted but they had the ring for too long and each time they put it on it made them more and more like Golem. But, the good thing about the ring is the power it gives you, plus it makes you invisible while you wear it so your enemies can't see you.

It's not good, it's bad. The ring makes the worst of people's character come out, the greed and the lying etc. That's what the films are about, Frodo + Co on their journey to this fire that will destroy the ring forever, so it cant harm someone else's life.

I personally wished they'd just made one film, I hate those films with a vengeance.

I have hated Lord of the Rings ever since it came out. But on Sunday i was so bored in my house, i had a headache so i couldnt really listen to music, and there was nothing on the box apart from Lord of the Rings, so because my man wanted to watch it, i gave in and let him. So i ended up watching it too, and i still think its not my cup of tea, but it is actualy quite good if your into that sort of fantasy thing. It was much better than i expected, There is one left on this sunday and if there is nothing on i am gonna watch it. I think its a bit far fetched obviously, but it is ok. But i know what you mean though when something is so sh!t and its so hyped up. for example that stupid show LOST. how pathetic.

Not good, power. All the Dark Lord's power was put into the ring.
The whole point was to be able to resist the pull of all that unlimited power and defeat evil.
Didn't you see/read Gandalf's Aragorn's or Galadriel's chances to take the ring, or weren't you watching?

the ring is the second half to the root of all evil, sauron. when sauron made the ring, he poured his blood into it. therefore it is a part of him. if sauron was to get the ring back, then he would have the power to submerge the world into a never ending darkness. the only way to keep him from getting the ring is to destroy it, for if you hide it, it will only be a matter of time before his wraiths get it.
