Vancouver is wonderful. The top attractions are
-Grouse Mountain where you can see views from the top of the mountain- the sea, city and mountains. While on the top you can visit two orphaned Grizzly bears. www.grousemountain.com
-Go to the Capilano Suspension bridge (take this trip on the same day as going to Grouse as they are so close) www.capbridge.com
-The Vancouver Aquarium where you can see beluga whales, dolphins, sea otters and other amazing fish www.vanaqua.org
-Take a bus city tour where you can hop-on and off at different places www.graylinewest.com
-See the Classic Chinese Garden or botenical gardens www.vancouverchinesegarden.com or www.vandusengarden.org
-If you are there in the summer go to the Richmond Night Market
-A must is visiting Stanley Park (the aquarium is in the center of the park)
Nightlife is along Granville St where bars on weekends typically are open until 2 or 3am. Just be prepared for lineups if you do not go early (10ish). If you plan on having fun but do not want to spend a lot of money, go to clubs or lounges outside the downtown core as drinks and cover charges there are the highest.
Both times are year are beautiful, but be prepared for some rain if you come in late winter/early spring.
I hope that helps, also look at the tourism vancouver website they can get you great deals if you are looking to see attractions.

Salut Milie,
Vancouver est probablement la ville canadienne la plus agréable! It is a great place to work and live, and there are a lot of foreign students learning English. The weather is so pleasant in summer, not too hot like in Toronto or Calgary, and winter is mild and pleasant, although the locals will complain that it rains all the time. I love to go there in January when it is -35 where I live. However, it is an expensive city and affordable housing is hard to come by, especially the closer you want to be from downtown. Email me if you have specific question in mind.

vancouver has lots of parks and green space, it will take you some time to all of it. a car is really needed though if you want to get out of this city. you must see whistler and the mountains.

i hope you have a good stay here.

So you want to come to vancouver bc eh? Its actually called Hongcouver now due to the asian population there now... I lived in Victoria for high school, and live in bellingham, 2 hours south of Van, across the boarder... Vancouver is one of the best places you'll ever see, its so amazing... you can snowboard, surf, see the ocean, see the forest, enjoy people from all over the world, and its near victoria, which is even better! I totally suggest it, for sure.. are you gonna go to UBC? or SFU? cheers
