I have a feeling of what it means ..... to get far away from something. as poss. Am I right? Is anyone certain of the definition please, much appreciated.

I remember a very old ad campaign for Camel cigarettes. where people would "walk a mile for a camel"...perhaps this is what you are looking for. In other words, the camel cigarettes were so good, this person would be willing to walk a mile to get one. Many people began substituting in place of the word camel to show that [whatever IT was} it was worth walking a mile for.

"to run a mile" means "to run a mile" now
"to walk a mile for a camel" means something else!
Honestly, I think that you have this saying confused with another

It sounds like your definition is correct, but if you could use the saying in a sentence I can let you know for sure.

run an extra mile???
i think you need to do more then they expect you to do.....
something like that... but if you "run a mile" it means you have to do it very fast!! with all your effort!!! okay?
