I have 2 computers

one is AMD 32bit 2500MHz with 256MB Ram and 64MB GForce 2 AGP Graphic Card. Motherboard Brand Gigabyte AMD K7

Other one is P4 2400MHz with 256MB Ram and 128MB Radeon 9200 SE Graphic Card. Motherboard Brand is MSI Neo2.

Both PCs are installed same OS (From Same CD With Same Key) Windows XP Servise Pack 2. And Both MotherBoards are USB 2.0 rated.

But When I connect my Flash Drive which is USB 2.0 rated to my AMD machine, I got a ballon message from system menu saying that "This Device Can Perform Faster" heading. I think this is a common problem.

But when I connect the same flash drive into P4 machine, I dont get such a message.

When I get that Message, Speed of my flash drive is less than 2.0 So it takes more than 20min to copy 1GB of data. Its a terible case.

Can anyone Help me to get the advantages of USB 2.0 speed.
Any help appreciated.
Thnx in advanced.

Follow these nine steps in your AMD machine:

1) Obtain a PS/2-interface mouse and keyboard. Shut the machine off and plug those in, as this will prevent any problems that occur when you disable USB devices and then suddenly lose keyboard/mouse support. (If you use a PS/2 keyboard/mouse already, then you can continue normally.)

2) Do not unplug or remove any of your normal USB devices, including any USB controllers.

3) Boot the system in Safe Mode by pressing F8 at boot time.

4) Open the Device Manager by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting Manage, then expand the Device Manager from the left-hand tree.

5) Expand the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" tree in the right-hand pane.

6) Remove each device in turn by right-clicking on it and selecting Uninstall.

7) After you remove all USB devices, shut down the computer and replace the USB keyboard and mouse (if you were using them).

8) Reboot normally. The system will then redetect and re-enumerate all USB devices, which may take a few minutes.

9) After everything is reinstalled, plug in a high-speed USB 2.0 device and make sure it works normally. ( It will be faster this time... won't take 20 mins for 1 GB )

There are mainly two version of USB ports so far, 1.0 and 2.0.
From what you have said, it seems that your "flash drive" supports USB version 2.0 as does your P4 machine. However your AMD machine supports only up to USB version 1.0.

Basically your problem is that your AMD motherboard is older than your P4 motherboard. The only way to fix this is by either changing the motherboard or installing a PCI USB version 2.0 hub. Personally I would recommend changing the motherboard, otherwise you could just live with it. :)

Your AMD Machine probably is not USB2.0 equipped. Both the computer and the external hardware need to have USB2.0 for the transfer speeds to be fast. The easiest way to fix this is install a USB 2.0 card into your AMD machine, these are available relatively cheaply and only take a short while to install.

If your AMD Machine has been advertised to have USB2.0 maybe the USB port you are using is not 2.0. Try using other ports on the computer to see if they are 2.0. If you are not sure if you have any 2.0 ports clicking on the balloon that says 'this device can perform faster' and a dialog box will tell you if there are any USB2.0s installed.

install a pci slot usb hub, even if you have an old computer, you can have usb 2.0 and even firewire. it only costs about 10-25 dollars and you just turn off the power, put it in the pci slot, close the box, and restart windows.

examine for motive force topics. commence -> administration panel -> device -> gadget manager. in case you observe yellow exclimation marks close to something with usb you want to re-installation drivers. likely that is the USB card/motherboard help that doesn't have the drivers.

the usb port in ur amd is 1.0. And this fact can't be changed because it's a hardware capability. you better change the hole computer to resolve this problem.
