miskeny - Ireland is different. we didnt drop bombs because we tried to control the situaiton on the ground. The IRA were the bombers or did you forget? As for fanatical Muslims - they are not in one place but all over the world. The US and UK dropped bombs on IRAQ to overthrow Sadaam - good job. We brop bombs in Afghanistan to root out the Al Queida - Good job. Its their fault that these situations start in the first place. The democratic west tries to stop ethnic cleansing and terrorism which is a noble cause.

What drives them to do all this? Well this is a very controversial issue and there are number of reasons that drive to one being a terrorists, I spent a considerable amount of time to extend my research up to a further analysis on their life and as vague as it may sound, I found out its not religion that drives them to become terrorist, its the world. I read several articles on the life of terrorist and as the more I indulged into curiosity, the more research I did. We simplify terrorists simply as nuts or maniacs because we don’t have an understanding of their values, lives and emotions; they are after all normal human beings that came into this world just like the rest of us.
Now everyone has different perspectives and I respect that but when we say "The person blew him/her self up". We don't think what made the "Terrorist" do that, we say f*** that piece of S*** and its over, now let me give an example, if you were to choose your way of death, what would you choose? I can say definitely that blowing yourself up won't be a topper in you list. Now we come back to my question, what drives them to this insanity? Answer: Injustice.
Look at the Middle East, it’s more like a training ground for troops. Bloodshed every where. women, children, the old and the young are dying alike in this so called war on terrorism, Now why not war on poverty? War on injustice? Why not war against HIV and other pressing issues?
I believe when a person has no way out (e.g. in Palestine) and all the ones he/she loved are dead and there is no justice, then there is only one thing on a person's mind and that is "Revenge".
Once you become an avenger and you are in an environment where every person is for him/her self, the thirst for revenge drives you to do "terrorist activities". I could go on for a couple of more points but now I have to get back to work :)
My answer is not to support terrorist(s) but to eliminate the causes for one becoming a terrorist. Every where I saw no one had appropriate or an biased reason concerning your question and many other questions like yours, People end it with "Because they are _______" I thought why not look at the reasons. I know for a fact majority will disagree with me, but please remember to solve a problem "The Root" of the problem must be eliminated.
Thank you for the ones who took their time to read my answer :)

Strongly-held beliefs and a feeling that they have no political power to change their circumstances. People throughout history have fought for what they believe and in the process they have maimed innocent people. No war has ever restricted death and injury to volunteer military forces. Is there a difference between countries waging wars and small groups waging wars? Certainly not to the innocent victims.
Before asking a question like this you need to think more deeply about what you mean by the word 'terrorist' is is not as simple as you might think. Terrorism is usually considered to be a method of waging war that involves terrorizing the civilian population in order to force others to address your concerns. Or maybe you think is should be restricted to just those groups that we don't agree with at the time.
By the usual definition, a number of people/groups might fall into the category: Nelson Mandela (before imprisonment), Menachem Begin (bombing of St David's Hotel), Yasser Arafat, Bomber Harris (Dresden carpet bombing), USA government (Napalming Vitenamese villages), Che Guevara, the Mujaheddin (just against USSR invasion of Afghanistan??), etc etc.
Are people who kill and maim innocent people evil? Whether or not they are sanctioned by a democratic government? And no matter what their cause? These questions become very easy to answer if you have a brain the size of George Bush's. For most of us, things are a little more complicated.

Killing innocents has nothing to do with humanity.
The motivation lies in other factors (ethnic pride, religion, politics etc.) The problem is that these things are considered more important than humanity.
Think: If our culture promoted humanity as the most important thing then we would not have a long history of war.
The Crusaders killed many innocents as well in the name of reclaiming the Holy Lands (religion and politics) just as modern day terrorists kill innocents in the name of ethnicity (IRA) or in the name of religion.
Your additional comments answer your own question: You think that it is good that the west resolved what you consider dangerous situations (Afghanistan, Iraq) even if in the process many innocents were killed.
The violence creates a vicious circle.
Finally (again from your additional comments): If you think you know the answer already and you are going to ironically criticise everyone's opinion there is no point in you asking the question.

Constant brainwashing that fills them with anger against the rest of humanity. It's not even the West they hate, as they also kill their own brother Muslims who have never hurt anyone.
If humankind were wiped off the planet except themselves, then they would carry on and kill each other. They kill because they enjoy it, it gives them a massive high when they destroy life and leave pain and suffering where there was once happiness and peace. And they truly believe Allah will reward their evil acts? Oh purleeze!

I personally feel that they are placing too much on a believe they think is true but never exist in the first place. I mean it's kinda sad when people just become fanatics. They are the people who perhaps has stray away from their religion because of their fanatism. I feel that all religion do have their quality part but terrorist was driven by a strange force of their believe that they should destroy to receive blessings of heaven.

because they realise that its only when they do go to these extreme lengths that anyone takes notice .its an act of desperation from people who have lost hope. Its not like terrorism is only confined to Muslims or something new . we had 30 years of it from the IRA but no one thought every Irish person was a terrorist .or that we should drop bombs on Dublin and kill thousands to retaliate b-liar is encouraging a climate of hate and fear as a means of control and people are gullible enough to fall for it.

I would say it is a complete lack of morals, i.e. they are ammoral.
If they had any feelings at all, the thought of killing a beautiful child, or leaving a person without legs or arms, would so horrify them that they would be unable to do their despicable acts. Since many are suicidal, they obviously are missing out on some important part of the brain, a moral or feeling part, a part which contains emotion or empathy.
I would say they are very very angry, at themselves, actually, wish to rub themselves out and take as many with them as they can, thru sheer anger.
If only this showed on their faces!

They have been brainwashed into doing what they do. Many of them are in it for the money they can give to their family which may take hundred years to earn if they work normally. It is a kind of fanaticism like crusades where an individual or group believes that they are doing a service to God.

Why single out terrorists?
Bush and Blair went to enormous lengths to kill and maim innocent people in Iraq.
In their cases it was driven partly by religious bigotry and in the case of Bush's aids - greed.
