Invitation from Orkut members is not necessary now. Signing up for an Orkut account has become easy.
1. Visit https://www.orkut.com/JoinCreate.aspx
2. Enter your Gmail email id and password in the text boxes provided
3. Click Sign In

Having a Gmail id means you don't have to open an account on orkut. Using the id of Gmail you can log into orkut too.

To open an Orkut account you will an invitation of a friend or someone who is already into Orkut. Give your Gmail ID to me at smchief@gmail.com; I will invite you to Orkut.

No, you can't open it by yourself , somebody already having orkut account can send you friend request. Moreover you dont require gmail account for same, it can also work if you have yahoo one.

goto orkut page now u dont need and inviatation to go orkut
on the login page right hand bottom u see the REgister clcik that
