according to yahoo news! on the entertainment section, david beckham apparently paid himself £19 million last year of 2005. its ridiculous. and i ask for what exactly? what do footballers do which warrants that ridiculous sum of money, other than just kick a ball around for 90 mins on the pitch? by the way, i am a footie (or you are based in the US/australia) soccer fan myself-yet disillusioned as to why they should get paid £100,000+ week. as for david beckham himself, he is not worth 19 million a year. its insane that nurses, university lecturers, and women in general are often understaffed, undervalued and being paid derisory amounts-yet he and other sporting athletes get £19 million or more. where is the logic in this i ought to ask?

hence, beckham earns too much money whilst playing for real madrid and since his arrival at the club, real madrid won no trophies. if he was that good a footballer- which i'd say he's not- he'd not be doing ads, sell aftershave, wear sarongs, etc.

No. Whereas the wealthy keep the country going with their exobitant taxes they also increase the costs for everyone else to live. How can anyone justify having so much money when fellow human beings are starving?

The reason why David is worth so much is not because of what he does on the pitch, its what he does on the pitch.

In honesty David does not truelly get paid by Madrid. They take 50% of his advertising. That comes to alot more than what he's getting paid. He is a good player, but thats the only reason he was a regular last season.

But now he's lost his England Captaincy sales have dropped considerably. So, now the new Real Madrid coach has little pressure to play him. It seems very unlikely he will still be there in the New Year as the transfer window will soon be open and David is yet to sign a contract extension.

Hope this helps...

It goes without saying he is a talented footballer, weather he is a s good as he was is probably more contraversail. As footballers gain more experience they seem to lose the cutting edge that comes with the hunger to be the best.

Is anyone worth 19 million well having spent some time in sales you soon learn anything is only worth as much as you can get for it. So if you do not like what he earns you have to condem those that pay it to him rather than Mr. Beckham.

After all I am sure if you were offered the same you would not think twice about accepting it.

I am not a huge fan of his but I have to respect peoples abilities
as I do for Thierry Henry and yet I am a Spurs fsupporter

Hi!

I sort of agree with you!!

On some part, he's trapped in the media-hype circus, so he's a casualty of his own success. I know that doesn't help - but it's true.

If all the footie clones, sheep etc., or whatever you want to call them didn't 'buy' into the image and purchase the HUGELY overpriced footie kits et al, then there'd be no market.

You are SO right, it is INSANE that the nurses, university and the rest are undervalued and underpaid.

Having said that, I do think that David does a lot for charity, some of it promoted, some of it not.

Hell..... It's a crazy world in which we live!

Its difficult to set a value to a persons job.

Does he give us 19 million quids worth of entertainment? Not me, I would watch football if he was earning half a million a year and he would still be keen to play for that much if all salaries were less.

We must learn were to draw the line!

I understand where your coming from, But he was paid £6m for playing football last year. the £19m is from all his endorsement contracts so it is more for selling his image rather than playing the game also he was making up for last year when he paid himself £100000 so it is really £10m per year. They do earn to much but what about Schumacher who was paid £20m per year by Ferrari before his endorsements were added. Unfortunately its supply and demand and these guys are in demand.

Also what about J Lo she earns more than this and she is a talentless minger and so do a lot of so called gangster Rap artists. The worlds not fair but people like giving them money!

no one is worth that kind of money in our world..however on planet beckham you are worth what someone is willing to pay for you....he gets millions from advertisers to promote their products, i`m sure they do their research into whether he gives value for money(relatively speaking).why would he turn it down if people want to throw money at him?

I agree I think that those who do more worthwhile jobs for our community from doctors to the fire service to bin men are worth much more than beckham.
