How did the United States and its allies develop and carry out their strategy for defeating Italy, Germany, and Japan?

I can tell you about the battle in the coral sea briefly...the pacific fleet attacked on a west bound heading taking the Japanese fleet head on it seemed...whereas the amphibious air born battalion flanked right just North of the slot and the Pacific fleet...The US Helena, a cruiser in the Pac fleet took two torpedos from a japanese sub after taking out two japanese destroyers and possibly a sub...those men were in the water at night for hours amidst oil, sharks, and burning oil...they came out of the water silver from the ships oil...the US Radford, a US destroyer picked the men from that ship...my father was one of them...he told us this story many times when I was a child...
