No. the American Economy could best be described today as a service based Economy. that is if you take the GNP and take a look at what sectors compromise the majority you will find that service make up the greatest portion what are these services I am talking about
Financial Services- Banks, Insurance companies, credit card companies and investment companies
Health Services- Hospital service companies, Pharmaceutical companies, Laboratory Service companies
Transportation Services, Railroads, Trucking companies, Seaborne transport companies, and the various parcel companies like UPS Fedex etc..
Technology Services. Computer and Software companies, Telecommunication Companies, IT Companies
Legal services - corporate, private and international
Customer Services- Everyone from the support person on the telephone to the local clerk at K-Mart
these are some but by no means all the categories. However as America has left the industrial age, embraced the electronic age and started on the path of the nanotechnology manufacturing while still a significant part of GNP has been overtaken by Services
