My diet prohibits all dairy products as bad for the heart and vascular systems but I can explain in part for it's popularity ...
Many years ago they came out with a sign telling of the major
food groups this sign was done by the dairy assoc. No doubt yu can see the connection there and futhermore there is no such thing as a dairy group being a major food group till this propaganda blossomed on the general public

Orientals usually don't drink milk. Your body needs the vitamins in the milk but if you are getting the vitamins from other sources like fruit and vegetables you do not need milk.
Broccoli is a great source of calcium. Also in order to have calcium in your body for strong bones and teeth you have to ingest the calcium and be exposed to the sun. Milk alone does not produce the desired effect tor healthy bones.

you can get the calcium you need for strong bones and teeth, etc, from other things besides milk like cheese, yogurt, etc. so if you have those things in your diet, then you wouldn't need to drink milk.

i personally love milk, so i drink probably on average a glass a day. my sister on the other hand is lactose intolerant, and doesn't have any dairy hardly at all. i think it just depends on where you get the calcium you need.

also, drinking milk and getting calcium will help you in the long run, you may not see any ill effects now, but when you are older, you might have brittle bones, or something along those lines.

Calcium. You don't want a broken hip at 40, do you?

Though, it is possible to replace the calcuim and vitamins found in milk through dietary supplements.

Shoby: Increasingly healthy diets? You live in some small community without fast food outlets and corner stores? If anything, most of the developed world has seen a decrease in vitamin consumption, replaced with sugars, starches, saturated fats and other chemicals and additives never seen in our universe before they were created in a Dow Chemicals lab somewhere.

In the olden days, people were told to drink milk as it was a good source of calcium.

However, these days, with our ever increasingly healthy diets, milk isn't really a necessity.

It is very nice though!
