In 1989, after being acquitted in a criminal trial, Hastings was stripped of his position as a federal judge -- impeached by the House in which he now serves and convicted by the Senate -- for conspiring to extort a $150,000 bribe in a case before him, repeatedly lying about it under oath and manufacturing evidence at his trial.

Look further into it. This was 1989, 17 years ago. Are these all charges from one case or repeated incidents? If he was acquitted does that mean he was guilty? I haven't looked at his record yet, but I suspect there isn't much dirt on him or he wouldn't be serving on the Intelligence Committee already.
Somehow the Republican Congress functioned under leaders who committed multiple federal and state felonies while in office such as former House leader Tom DeLay. If his actions did not concern you, then perhaps the record of this guy should not make you nervous.
BTW, a bill passed the Senate earlier this year that would have regulated Congress's relationships to lobbyists. The House voted it down. Perhaps this is something to write your congressman about.

Pelosi had mentioned Hastings for this position in the past but I have not read anything about her making a choice since the midterms. Are you sure this isn't just some talking heads crap meant to initiate hostilities?
