Nascar from an Aussie perspective
Yes Nascar do tend to go around in circle. But they do it at very high speed. And there is more to it that meet the eye.
That said, Nascar is regarded as perhaps the most popular form of racing in the world due to the amount of spectators turning up to watch it.
In Australia we have "V8Supercars".
We take the body shell of an Australian road car
Put an American V8 engine in it
And all the European hi-tech technology which goes in motor racing. Our cars have Formula One disk brakes and computerise electronics with fuel injection.
We don't have ovals in Australia. We have proper circuits with twists and turns. Our cars can race on any circuit in the world and are perhaps the best and fastest touring cars in the world. Our cars can climb up a hill at 250km/h and go down the hill at 300km/h. We go flat chat through twists and turns at 200km/h.
Is it a sport? You bet it is. You are sitting in a cabin where the temperature is double the temperature outside. It requires 120 per cent concentration 99% of the time. You make gear change every 10 seconds . You loose about a kilo in sweat for every hour of racing.
Ever heard of the annual 1000Km of Bathurst?
This is one of the best race in the world.

No, I love it with a passion. I actually just sat through the PHX 125 Nascar Autozone Elite Division Southwest Series race, the Casino Arizona 150 Craftsman Truck Series race, the Arizona.Travel 200 Busch Series Race, and the Checker Auto Parts 500 Nextel Cup Series Race from Phoenix Internatinal Raceway (Thats 4 races, in case you weren't paying attention)... And I cant wait to do it again when they come to town in April! I love nascar so much I risked going into labor to go see it!
And In response to the first guy that posted... there ARE drivers who make more than $20 million in a year... Dale Earnhardt Jr. made $25.76 million last year, making him the ninth highest-paid athlete in sports, according to Sports Illustrated.
Next time you feel like judging something, why don't you do a little research so you don't make yourself look like an ***!
GO NASCAR!!!!
Oh, and by the way, I'm not fat, not incestuous, don't have an 8, 3, or 24 tattooed on my back, don't have a mullet, and didn't get any beer spilled on me. With tickets for the Nextel cup series race going at $107 a seat at PIR, there really aren't as many of those types of people as you think. Idiot.

i'm assuming you're a non-American. and that i will assure you that NASCAR is unquestionably a activity, and a activity with a extensive fan base. many people (around the international, could I upload) appreciate and are unswerving to NASCAR racing and different motor activities. It, like each activities, has it is very own stereotypes. although, it is an somewhat exciting activity to observe, and that i take place to be a extensive fan. additionally, there are street classes in NASCAR racing, the place the drivers make left and precise turns! i do no longer discover entering into a circle to be that easy. merely think of for a 2d...you (the driving force) are going one hundred ninety miles an hour on a brilliant speedway alongside with 40 two different drivers, all going that velocity and all attempting to bypass you. You and your crewchief ought to have suggestions to get on pit street the quickest, bypass cleanly on the song, and get the main factors you could. you ought to do try runs, practices, and make appearances for the followers. All that, plus the honour, funds, and satisfaction that are on the line every time you race everywhere. it is a superb purchase to do!!! i could like to make certain YOU grasp all that.

OK, I'm really beginning to think F1 fans haven't learned the difference between circles and ovals, and also don't realize there are actually 2 road course races on the circut in NEXTEL Cup, and 3 in the Busch Series.
Also, the days of the stereotypical NASCAR fan are over. Today, we come from all walks of life. I work in an engineering department in a company in Buffalo, New York. I never lived in the south, never been there. My hair is buzzed short, and I also play and watch hockey. And I still have all my teeth, and don't drink beer often.
Has any F1 fan looked up the term "Ad Nauseum"? As in, "This question has been asked ad nauseum" since the beginning of this board."

No! I AM getting fed up with these stupid questions though! Don't you have something better to do with your time? Why come on here and insult a sport that everyone loves. If you don't like it, then oh well, don't watch it! I personally find golf, basketball, and baseball extremely boring, but I'm not out there moaning about it. Come on now! Get a life!

Answering questions from dip-wads like you is as much fun as any thing.
When you ask this sort of question several things come through my mind such as,what type person are you?Well since this question mainly happens when NBC has the race you must be the person that watches the "paid program infomercials" on Sunday afternoon. But wait that can't be it your too smart for that!I know what it is your cable is cut off and you can only get the NBC station and your a whinner!
But here is a flash You are but a voice and from the looks of the answers so far a little voice so such a little voice comes from such a little person take your toys to your room and play.

I only get bored when they race single file all day, but otherwise I've always enjoyed 800 hp stock cars bumping, banging, and shoving each other around at speeds unattainable on the streets. If it was up to me they would start 80 cars in each race.

Oval track racing is just a different type of racing. It's more a competition between drivers than a competition with the track, like F1 is.
Not better, not worse, just different. For some of us it's exciting to watch cars in close competition, where passing other people is the big deal.
