I know this may sound extravagant to some but this will be his 'main' xmas present (Cheaper than an xbox 360!). Men/boys what would you have prefered?

For the guy who suggested buying a 25ins or 32ins LCD?Plasma... I can barely bring myself to get a little one for the simple fact he's only 10yrs! It's bad enough him having a TV in his room in the first place let alone a huge... I'm so big I'll dominate you life and free time one! ;o) It's purely for the novelty factor and making him have a great xmas.

For those concerned parents - his homework is always done and his TV is strictly monitored. It's mainly used to watch (appropriate) DVD's with friends of Kids TV on Weekend mornings. Is that Okay with you... besides I'm trying to imagine what he'd be happiest with?????

When I was just a little older than your son I went on a helicopter ride to an offshore oil rig. I still remember that it was so loud we had to wear earmuffs and it was one bumpy ride. Recently when my 6 year old son was wondering what a helicopter ride would be like I could tell him because of that one educational trip I took ages ago.
While at first thought the TV might seem like a better idea because it's material and he'll have it forever and you won't be wasting your money, that's just the thought those who can't afford the TV will have. If you can afford both items and are choosing to give one to let your son be appreciative and not too materialistic...give him the helicopter ride. If you're really going out of your budget to make your son happy then stick to the material and get the TV or maybe something even cheaper.
If you really want to know what your son will prefer ask him, but please understand kids without jobs tend to be materialistic and while he might say the TV many years from now if he has a TV but can't afford a helicopter ride he might wish you had chosen for him in his youth. I'm glad I got the ride, 'cause I definitely don't have the budget for it these days.
Anyway, Merry Christmas.

As a parent of an 11 year old I would say TV. The helicopter ride is more of a day out rather than an actual present. Also i doubt you will be able to have the helicopter ride on Christmas day.

I'm sorry but i'm thinking more like a train set or some action figures. Your gifts are way out there for me. I'm sure u have a great son but does he really need those gifts to show him that??? He's 10, if u buy him that t.v. or take him on a helicopter ride, just imagine what he's gonna want for his b-day. Parents u spoil ur kids like this and then u pay the price in the long run and u want to know why ur kids turn out the way they do. Sorry but it's the truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As someone who flys on a regular basis in small aircraft, look at it this way.

A helicopter ride is an experience, maybe life changing and one he will remember for the rest of his life.
My first flight became a passion, then a hobby and soon to be a career.

A tv is just another tv.

A helicopter ride will only be a thrill for a day, or two - and then fade away in any 10-year-old's memory !
But an LCD TV, all for himself, will be a treasured possession to him - and also constantly remind him of the parent who thoughtfully gifted it to him.
Go for the TV !

I'd take the LCD. Helocopter rides are hard to appreciate at 10 yrs old. Yes, it's cool, but it's easily forgettable.

An iPod and a $25 gift certificate to iTunes would be even better.

I think that the helicopter ride will be over so quick so I would go for the television that will last a lot longer. But you know your child do what you think they would prefer.

The helicopter ride!
Tv's in bedrooms are a bad idea. You'll struggle to gt him to do his homework and he'll lock himself up in his room away from your family. I hate tv's in bedrooms!!!!
You'll have no idea what he's watching, either.
The helicopter ride is fantastic, especially if you get together with another friend and the two boys ride together.

Extravagant doesn't even begin to describe what it sounds like when about 25 euro is the limit of your own presents, but I'd go with the TV.
