Hey, I got a question....

I got offered a job by a questionable marketing co., however, they told me my comission chechs would be given to me tax-free and that I would be the one having to my my own taxes at the end of the year, basically making me self-employed. My concern is that if in the end their marketing techinques were to be found dishonest, people like myself would end up in trouble, since there's practically no affiliation between me and my "empolyer". ****, they didnt even ask me for my SIN #. Is that even legal ???

If the IRS were to come after your employer, you would not be held responsible in any way. As long as you report the income you receive and pay taxes on the income at the end of the year, you are doing your part. I noticed that you just said your comission checks would be tax free. Are they withholding taxes from your regular paycheck? Alot of car dealers work this way too. They'll pay their salepeople a biweekly wage and their comission is straight cash. At the end of the year, they issue a 1099-misc reporting that income. You'll have to pay self employment tax at the end of the year

A lot of company's do this but you would do better to find another job as if you do not put the money away for your taxes [state and federal] you will have a hefty bill at the end of the year. Plus you would need to put into social security and since they didn't take your # how do they plan on doing this? Even if you are working as an independant contractor of the company they should still need identifying info if they are to remain legal.
