Heavy snow, wind and ice are usually the main culprits for a power failure.
If you're moving to a remote area you could get a backup generator in case
the power goes down. No matter where you live you should always be
prepared for most emergencies. Being snowed in for three days is not bad
the snow will help provide some insulation to help keep your house warm.
These days there is usually enough warning to prepare for any extreme
weather. Seeing that you have small children candles aren't a good idea
camping lanterns are great for when you have no lights.

The only time you would normally have no electricity would be from an ice storm and even then the electric company's are pretty fast at fixing downed wires. I too, live in an area that gets it's share of snow. I can only remember one time in the past 35 years we went without power for two and a half days at the most. That was a winter with little snow and I was hoping for more snow to keep the milk, etc. cold. You will be fine.

snow is completely safe when it comes to power outages. It's the ice storms the makes the power go off. I have seen 14 inches of snow and the power didn't even flicker. You must be new to the area because when we get 14 inches of snow, we go out shopping. No biggie. I hope we get more snow this year. I love snow. It's the ice storms that i don't like. Snow is safe and the power doesn't go off when it snows.
