In Australia we say Merry Christmas, and our religious right is much less prevalent in politics than in the US.

Most people would roll their eyes if they were greeted with "happy holidays" because it is a bluntly politically correct Americanism.

When the ACLU has crushed the last Christian under their heel. As if that were possible. The church has flourished in China where there is brutal persecution and prosecution of Christians. Political correctness in the workplace would forbid "Merry Christmas". Who or what is the driving force behind "Political Correctness". Actually why don't Americans call it "Merry Materialism" or "Happy Conspicuous Consumerism" since Christ is an embarassment or a point of aggrevation to others, and after all, Christmas is all about going into debt and writing credit card companies in January and February begging for extensions, and lower payments even though it will cause your finance charges and percentage rates to go up. "Everybody is doing it" can be your excuse too. Or you can do what the Christ said: "Take my yoke upon you and learn of me for my yoke is easy and my burden is light".

As soon as people on both sides stop carping about it and people can say whatever they wish without criticism.
