Depends. Connecting to an always-on thing like broadband is easy: you will get all the software, parts and instructions you need when you sign up (most computers come with IE). If you are using dial-up, you will want a modem (most desktops come with one) and software to dial out (AOL works well). Browsers like Internet Explorer and standard Firefox can't dial out on their own! You also need to remember the all-important long phone cord if you want to use dialup.

However, I am puzzled as to why you are asking this question because you needed a working internet connection to access Yahoo Answers! If you just want hardware and software to make your internet connection better, I recommend Firefox running NoScript and broadband. Firefox almost never crashes, is free, and with the NoScript add-on is almost immune to viruses. Broadband really is faster than DSL, and will make surfing go much faster.

Did any of that help?
