and what is the law regarding if the gay person is south african and the other one from another country, would that person be allowed to live and work in south africa after they are married?

As the first answer said the law is in the works to legalize marriage for gays.

To answer rest of question, if the law is passed, the same benefits would apply as they do for straights. This includes immigration policy towards spouses of citizens.

Not yet but the law is on the way, you'll just have to wait for the details like the rest of us.

It's scary though that South Africa is WAY more advanced that US in terms of gay rights.....doesn't that make you think?
