A mirror is important because it reflects us. By knowing that the person in the reflection is ourselves it means that we have the ability to have self awareness. A few animals besides humans have this ability of self awareness...apes, dolphins and most recently scientists found out that elephants are self aware. We all are social animals too, so having self awareness is important in social groups because to be successfully social we have to know ourselves first.

*convex mirror used as rear view mirror in the vehicles to see vehicles behind it.

In my life vest I keep a few things for survival, I can only carry a few things, a mirror is one of those things needed to signal aircraft in case of immersion, and rescue is needed.
