I have 3 laptops, a Toshiba, an HP, and a Dell. I have to say the Toshiba is by far my favourite. Dell has the most options, but their prices aren't the best, and their laptops are consistently heavier and run hotter. The hp's are OK, although their battery life tends to be weak. My Toshiba is just an awesome little machine - great screen, good battery life, good performance, low price.

I'd suggest looking for one of the new Sattilite models with the Intel core duo processors.

When you are ready to buy a new system, go to www.stupidcheapcomputers.net. I buy all of my stuff from them, and everything is Vista ready.

Microsoft is about to release its latest operating system, Vista, in January. It’s going to make all of these “bargain” computers nothing but JUNK as soon as it’s released. The reason that you are seeing so many cheap systems on the market right now is because a lot of them CAN’T RUN Vista and the merchants are trying to dump them as hard and fast as they can before Vista shows up and everyone learns what a piece of crap they were sold for $500 (or whatever).

Anyway, I bought a complete, new system from stupidcheapcomputers.net with a warranty for LESS than it would cost me to build it myself or order a custom one from the manufacturer. You can use my frequent buyer code: ATX926. That will get an additional 10% discount at checkout.

I have NEVER had any problems with anything that they have sold me and their customer service is outstanding. Those guys blow my mind.

Good luck!

This depends a lot on your price range and what you will do with it. I have a 12.1" Alienware, and it's great for mobile gaming. If you're looking more mainstream, Dell has a reputation for good warrenty service, while I believe Lenovo still has a reputation for very high quality standards. Toshiba and Acer are also decent. Don't touch HP/Compaq with a 10 foot pole.

If you want really unique and have TONS of cash, buy Falcon Northwest. They do custom, automotive grade, paint jobs and make wicked fast machines.

i'm making use of a HP enterprise sequence (nx...., nc....) and that i'm very happy with it. besides, as an IT expert I even have come on the brink of all considerable manufacturers and the acceptable determination a pair of workstation count number on your funds and the section you will use it. For enterprise purposes and heavy traveling i prefer to recommend the enterprise sequence from HP, Lenovo or Apple. For residing house utilization with uncomplicated-problem-unfastened projects Dell and Toshiba make a large job. ASUS is extremely extreme high quality too, particularly the acceptable sequence Ferrari/Lamborghini and EePC, the small one, very transportable with Intel atom CPU. besides stay some distance remote from Acer and Fujitsu and the different loopy names obtainable.

If you can afford them, a MacBook Pro or Alienware. You won't regret either. There's a reason they're so expensive. Sony is also expensive but geared more toward mobility: lightweight and still powerful.
