If you need to end a very specific background program, press Alt+Ctrl+Del
Go to the process tab and look for the program you wish to end.
Click "End Process"
You must be very sure of what you are doing before attemp to do this!

Do NOT delete everything as the first person suggested, as there are some programs which are VITAL to have running in the back ground.

u can do tha twith the help of "msconfig".but u have to take little care. So do like this only....
start>>>>>run>>>>>>type "msconfig">>>>>>select "servies">>>>>click on "hide all microsoft services">>>>>thn click on programs what ever u dont want to use>>>> click on "start up" menu and "disable all" >>>>> press "ok".
thn ur system works very fast

go to start>all programs>startup and delete everything in the folder DO NOT USE MSCONFIG

Do not try that... it might effect in the system's behaviour... till you restart again.
