The next two years are NOT a write off.

Sometimes the best legislation gets passed during the lame duck years of a President ... it is his last chance to cement (or in some cases, rescue) his legacy.

One reason, the opposition party (the Democrats in this case) are no longer limited to simply blocking legislation using a filibuster. They can propose legislation of their own, and have to work with the opposition party and the President to find legislation they all can support. The result is perhaps fewer pieces of legislation ... but the *quality* of the legislation can be better ... it can have longer impact, and future governments will support it. Sometimes when the same party controls both chambers of Congress + the Presidency, this can produce bad, partisan legislation that only gets repealed or overturned by the next government.

So don't write things off yet.

2008 is so far away and no one can predict election until the night of election. It is a theory that I was taught be the bright Professor from my old school. Every time he lectured, there were 700 students attended his forum. This gentleman's advice is always never out of date. Sorry I can not predict the outcome.
